Hello,

I am Aparna. I work at ManageEngine/Zoho as a product manager for enterprise IT solutions. I have been devouring on product management material for almost 2 years now. As a marketer turned product manager, I had a steep learning curve and am still on one. Like everyone else, I turned to google for answers. While all the online learning has been great, it took me 6 months in the job to realize I had to unlearn what I learnt.

That's because, most of what I read about was all about consumer applications. And I was building (a part of the team) an enterprise application.

For example,

  • The metrics such as DAU, MAU doesn't matter as much as it does in consumer applications.

  • Onboarding is not really straight forward because the one who evaluates the product and the one who uses the product on daily basis are two different people.

  • Enterprise tools are part of a system, therefore how well it can fit in their existing process is more important than the popularity of the product.

There are many such things.

Once I started spotting the difference, I quickly looked up online to see if there are anything that could help me do my day job better. I couldn't find much.

So, I started journaling my experiences and observations and realized that, there is a lot that could to talked about. And I am probably just getting started.

I am not sure, how many had the same experience and roadblocks I had when it comes to learning about the enterprise applications. So, decided to share my experiences.
